ENX network description

ENX is the abbreviation for "European Network Exchange" and is the communications network of the European automotive industry.

Detailed description

ENX works on the basis of each party having a connection to the network of the certified communications service providers (CSP). A request will then be made to the CSP to connect two parties by joining two half tunnels on their network, allowing data to be transferred between the two parties. Public Internet IP addresses are provided by the CSPs and must be listed on the Ford firewalls.
Once a half tunnel is in place, suppliers and OEMs can connect to multiple parties using the same connection at no additional cost (unless of course if extra bandwidth is required to cope with increased data transfer). Half tunnels are usually built the same or next day after the request is made as long as both parties have an existing ENX connection. If a supplier changes its CSP, then new IPs will be issued and new half tunnels must be built. Therefore the Ford firewalls will also need to be amended.
